Man charged with murder after fatal bar fight in St. Albans
ST. ALBANS, W.Va (WDTV) - A Culloden man is facing a murder charge after a fight outside a Putnam County bar left one man dead early Saturday morning.
Tyrone DeShawn Washington, jr., 25, of Culloden, West Virginia has been charged and arrested for Murder in the 2nd degree and Malicious Assault, according to a Facebook post made by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the post, deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a fight at the EZ Street Bar in St. Albans just before 1 a.m. Saturday, August 15. When they arrived, they found a man unconscious in the parking lot.
Investigators say a verbal argument between the victim, Cecil Pomeroy, Jr., and Tyrone DeShawn Washington, Jr., of Culloden, escalated into a physical altercation. Washington allegedly struck Pomeroy multiple times, causing life-threatening injuries. Pomeroy was transported to Thomas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Eyewitness accounts and video surveillance supported the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office. Washington has since been charged with second-degree murder and malicious assault.
The case remains under investigation by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit.
Washington is being held at the Western Regional Jail.
