Palo Cedro Rodeo Association to host first CPRA-certified rodeo at community park
PALO CEDRO, Calif. — A new rodeo coming to Palo Cedro is expected to bring visitors, competitors and vendors to the small community as organizers prepare for the inaugural event.
Competitors from across California to the Palo Cedro Community Park as the newly formed Palo Cedro Rodeo Association hosts its first-ever event.
The newly formed Palo Cedro Rodeo Association will host its first California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association-certified rodeo Saturday, Sept. 26, at Palo Cedro Community Park. Competitors from across the state are expected to attend, giving local restaurants, shops and other businesses a boost, organizers said.
"Right here in Palo Cedro, a small-town event... All the people traveling in, it's going to be great for our town and local merchants, so we are just really excited to get this thing on," Lani Bangay, a Palo Cedro Rodeo Association board member.
Organizers are using about six or seven acres of previously unused park land for the rodeo grounds. Bangay said the community has worked for about 20 years to find a use for the property.
“It’s something our town can all get behind and it’s also helped develop unused acreage on the park to have something happen back there,” said Bangay. “It’s been 20 years in the making to make use of the land and host a small town event.”
The rodeo will include full rodeo events, including roping, rough stock events, more than 20 bull riders, food vendors and craft vendors. Because the event is CPRA-certified, competitors can earn points toward year-end qualifications.
Gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday at Palo Cedro Community Park. Tickets are available through the Palo Cedro Rodeo website.
