Paraglider dies after crashing into Tom Steed Reservoir

Kiowa County man pronounced dead at Jackson County Memorial Hospital

MOUNTAIN PARK, Okla. (KSWO) - A Kiowa County man is dead after a possible drowning incident Sept. 24 at the Tom Steed Reservoir near Mountain Park.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 50-year-old Jason Ray Laird of Mountain View was pronounced dead by staff at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

The incident occurred at 6:55 p.m., according to OHP.

Investigators said Laird was flying over the reservoir on a paraglider when the engine failed, causing him to fall into the water.

He was rescued by bystanders and transported to Jackson County Memorial Hospital by Survival Flight, where he later died from his injuries.

OHP was assisted in the investigation by the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma State Parks and Survival Flight EMS.
