Kansas AG orders voter group to stop gift card incentives

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Kansas Attorney General is stepping in after the Kansas House Elections Committee pushed an investigation into a Kansas ‘League of Women Voters’ chapter.

The chapter gave $5 Starbucks gift cards to high school students who registered to vote in the Kansas City metro.

Attorney General Kris Kobach said the practice violates federal law, regardless of the amount.

Kobach has issued a cease-and-desist to the chapter, instructing them to stop the practice. The Attorney General’s office is referring the case to the U.S. Attorney General for further investigation.
