Lafayette sheriff’s office charges man with elder abuse

OXFORD – A Lafayette County man is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond after being accused of assaulting an older adult.
Lafayette County deputy sheriffs responded July 11 to the emergency room at Baptist Memorial Hospital after receiving a report that an elderly male victim had been assaulted at a County Road 303 residence in the Taylor community.
The ensuing investigation identified Anthony Carothers, 41, of Taylor, as the alleged offender. After obtaining an arrest warrant charging Carothers with assault on a person at least 65 years of age, Carothers was taken into custody without incident at his residence on County Road 303 later the same day.
During his initial appearance in Lafayette County Justice Court, a judge set Carothers' bond was set at $10,000. He is currently being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center pending the posting of bond. The Mississippi Department of Corrections has also placed a hold on Carothers.
