Stewardson motorcyclist dies after crash on Route 32

Authorities said Keith Rentfro, 75, was thrown from his motorcycle after it collided with a vehicle Monday afternoon.

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) – A Stewardson man died Monday afternoon after a motorcycle and vehicle collided on Route 32, according to the Effingham County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office identified the motorcyclist as Keith Rentfro, 75, of Stewardson.

Preliminary findings indicates Rentfro was riding south on Route 32 at about 2:45 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Patty Renner of Stewardson pulled out of the Phillips 66 gas station and attempted to travel north on the highway. The two vehicles collided, and Rentfro was thrown from the motorcycle, officials said.

Rentfro was taken to HSHS St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, where he was pronounced dead at 3:47 p.m. Renner was not injured, according to the coroner’s office.

An autopsy is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the McLean County Coroner’s Office in Bloomington to determine the official cause of death.

Illinois State Police, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the Stewardson Police Department and the Illinois State Police Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Effingham County Coroner’s Office, Illinois State Police Troop 7 and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
