Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies presents new Sunday concert series
The series will run every week in August
The Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies is enhancing the gallery experience with a new Sunday concert series, featuring intimate solo classical performances each week in August.
The series will run from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sundays, Aug. 2, 9, 16 and 23 at the center located at 610 Gillespie Ave. Admission is free.
“We are thrilled to offer this special opportunity for visitors to the Bayer Center to engage with student soloists from the Aspen Music Festival and School in our galleries,” Communications Manager Sarah Shaw said. “This collaborative series is truly reflective of Herbert Bayer’s interdisciplinary approach to art as a unified experience.”
The repertoire will feature classical selections inspired by the exhibition, “Double Take: Recurrent Dialogues in the Art of Herbert Bayer.” The performances are intended to complement the exhibit while serving as a prelude to the Aspen Festival Orchestra’s 4 p.m. concert. Visitors are invited to explore the galleries while experiencing the live music.
The series opens Sunday, Aug. 2, with violinist Iris Danek.
Danek is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Michigan, where she studies with Aaron Berofsky. A graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, she previously studied at the Colburn School.
She has appeared as a soloist at Hill Auditorium, Lincoln Center and Kresge Auditorium. She also performs Baroque music with the University of Michigan Baroque Chamber Orchestra. In addition to maintaining a private teaching studio, Danek serves as a mentor with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensemble. She performs on a 1925 Carl G. Becker violin.
Flutist Abi Middaugh will perform Aug. 9.
Middaugh, who is from the Detroit area, recently earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. For the past two years, she has performed with the Flint Symphony Orchestra. While at Michigan, she toured South Africa and Carnegie Hall with the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra and participated in a joint concert with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, along with several world premiere performances.
This fall, Middaugh will begin a master’s degree at Rice University in Houston. She said she is excited to return for her third summer at the Aspen Music Festival and School and her second as an ACA Fellow.
The recitals are presented in partnership with the Aspen Music Festival and School.
