JUNE 18 Southern Kentucky Genealogical Society Meeting The Southern Kentucky Genealogical Society invites the public to attend a special presentation about best practices in family research, "Avoid Pushing the Same Rock Up the Hill: Develop a Successful Plan.” Stop starting over every time you pick up your genealogy. Be more successful. Learn what to examine and how to break your search into smaller, more manageable pieces. Gail Jackson Miller, CG, a professional genealogist and speaker specializing in Kentucky, Virginia, and the surrounding area, will present. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on June 18 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at the corner of Cave Mill and Smallhouse Road. It is co-hosted with the Bowling Green Family Search Center at the church. The SOKY Genealogical Society normally meets on the third Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Bowling Green Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 807 Campbell Lane, Bowling Green, KY. The public is always welcome. JUNE 20 Fishing with Kids Fishing with Kids at Lake Malone State Park is June 20 from 6 to 11:30 a.m. This free event is for children ages 15 and under. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Fishing from the bank or boat is allowed. Please bring a bucket or something to put your fish in, and bring your own bait. Stringers are not allowed. There will be lots of drawings and a cookout for participants. You must be present to win prizes. Summer Family Day at South Union Shaker Village South Union Shaker Village is hosting a summer family day on Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 896 Shaker Museum Road, Auburn. JUNE 23 Fiscal Court Meeting The next meeting of the Logan Fiscal Court is at 9 a.m. on June 23 in the courtroom of the historic Logan County Courthouse. Everyone is welcome to attend. Logan County residents can dispose of items at the transfer station, located at 55 Pleasant View Dr., Auburn. You are limited to one load containing trash, furniture, construction debris, and electronics, and it must be covered. They will not accept tires, Freon-containing appliances, paint that has not dried out, hazardous chemicals, or car batteries. Logan County Genealogical Society Saturday Hours Logan County Genealogical Society's Saturday hours continue today. The society opens the Logan County Archives from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Saturday through the end of October, excluding federal holiday weekends. No appointment is necessary. This viewing is free to the public. Auburn Fireworks Auburn Tourism is hosting the 250 Year Freedom Fest on June 28 at the Auburn Park, 250 Spring Street, Auburn, from 5 p.m. until dark. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the music, bounce houses, and food trucks, and then stay for the fireworks. JUNE 29 Tourist & Convention Commission Meeting The Logan County Tourist & Convention Commission will hold its monthly board meeting on Monday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at the new Logan County Tourism Visitor Center located at 215 N. JULY 3 America 250 Celebration Adairville Community will celebrate America's 250th year of independence on Friday, July 3, at 6 p.m. at the Adairville Community Park with live music, food, and professional fireworks. JULY 4 4th of July Kiddie Parade The Colonel Benjamin Logan Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is continuing the tradition of the Bob & Joyce Guion 4th of July Kiddie Parade. Participants are encouraged to decorate their bicycle, ride-on toy, or other non-motorized ride-ons and join the parade. Children are encouraged to bring their parents and guardians for the fun. Line-up begins on West 8th Street in front of the Guion's former residence at 9 a.m. Anyone who does not want to walk the parade route is encouraged to line up on Main Street to cheer on parade participants. Auburn Cruise-In Everyone is invited to the Annual Auburn Car and Motorcycle Cruise-In on Saturday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Auburn Park. Please use the Amanda Gordon entrance. Swap Meet vendors will be present. There will be door prizes, plus free beans and cornbread for all entries and their families. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the music by the creek. Thunder Over Lewisburg The 12th Annual Thunder Over Lewisburg is a free county-wide event at Lewisburg City Park presented by pyrotechnician Clacy White and Ken Faircloth.
