Hayden Panettiere ‘s boyfriend Brian Hickerson allegedly sent the actress threatening text messages after he was arrested for domestic battery in 2020, according to a new report.
TMZ , citing court documents, reported that Hickerson’s 2020 case included alleged threats he sent to the Nashville actress after he was accused of striking her in the face with a closed fist while they were at an Airbnb in Wyoming.
When police arrived, Hickerson appeared intoxicated and was locked out of the home, per the report. The Heroes alum’s face was “red and swollen,” per TMZ. She also had a mark authorities believed was from Hickerson’s watch.
“Time to go to war I guess,” one text message Hickerson sent to the actress read, per the outlet.
“After Wyoming and LA disappears so do the videos,” another text read.
“Even if i sit in a jail cell for ten years. All of the stuff that is vaulted overseas with my people will come out the second I step foot into prison. And all that does is hurt your name while simultaneously clearing my name. And at that point who actually cares?” Hickerson also allegedly wrote to Panettiere.
Other texts he allegedly sent the star included, “Say something Hayd, so I don’t get defensive and start firing off emails to people to get ready” and “I thought his legal stuff would magically disappear… we gotta figure something out, buddy.”
Authorities allegedly believed Hickerson was attempting to intimidate Panettiere to drop the case against him, pointing to one text that read, “It is very simple, it is a very simple fix, between me and you, you gotta make one phone call.” Another reads, “I don’t want to go to court, for you. I will be [expletive] fine in court, trust me, it’s for you.”
Hickerson had been sentenced to one year in jail following the incident. However, a judge suspended his sentence and ordered him to probation for a year instead.
The Wyoming incident was not the first time Hickerson had been accused of abusing Panettiere. According to Page Six , he was first arrested in Los Angeles in May 2019 in connection with an incident involving the actress. That case was dismissed. However, in 2021, authorities filed an eight-count criminal indictment stemming from multiple incidents involving Panettiere between May 2019 and January 2020. Hickerson ultimately spent 45 days in county jail, four years of probation and 52 mandatory domestic violence classes and a five-year restraining order, according to the outlet.
In 2020, Panettiere wrote about domestic violence on Instagram : “I am coming forward with the truth about what happened to me with the hope that my story will empower others in abusive relationships to get the help they need and deserve.”
“I am prepared to do my part to make sure this man never hurts anyone again. I’m grateful for my support system, which helped me find the courage to regain my voice and my life,” she added.
By 2022, Panettiere reportedly reconnected with Hickerson and claimed they were just friends. “None of it is OK, and I want to make sure that everybody knows that,” Hayden reportedly said at the time, per People . “But I am open to people who are willing to get help and make amends. He’s gone to treatment and done his time. And I’m trying to live in a place of forgiveness.”
As In Touch previously reported, Panettiere died on Sunday, August 16 . She was 36. Paramedics responded to a call in Greenville, South Carolina with the words “overdose” and “cardiac arrest,” according to dispatch audio, per People .
