Rutgers alumna and Board of Trustees member Dr. Linda Caldwell Epps joined the New Jersey Senate Select Committee on America 250 to commemorate our nation’s semi-quincentennial on Tuesday in Elizabeth. In her testimony to the committee, she shared her perspectives and research on African American participation in the Revolutionary War. “Through my many years of studying history, I've learned of its complexity and of our using history to shape public policy and opinion that fuel our perceptions and values and understanding of the who, what, where, and when of our country's narrative.” Through her role as co-chair of the Revolutionary NJ advisory council alongside assistant professor of history Kristin O’Brassill-Kulfan, Dr. Caldwell Epps leads statewide efforts to educate about New Jersey’s role as the crossroads of the American Revolution. Senate President Nick Scutari and committee members extended the invitation to Rutgers and Dr. Caldwell Epps to participate in the hearing, which took place in the original church meeting house of NJ’s first colonial legislative assembly.
