Young woman killed when teenage driver strikes SUV had just moved to Jasper
JASPER COUNTY — A young woman who had recently moved from Tennessee to Jasper lost her life after the DPS says a teen driver struck the rear of her SUV.
Our media partner, KJAS, identifies the woman as 22-year-old Emmy Trela.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash that killed Trela after her vehicle was hit at about 6:30 p.m. Friday on State Highway 63 near County Road 168.
The DPS says the preliminary crash investigation indicates she was traveling west and slowed to make a left turn onto County Road 168.
It is reported that the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck failed to control his speed and struck the rear of the SUV.
Trela was rushed by EMS to CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial Hospital where she died.
The driver of the Dodge, identified as an 18-year-old from Zavalla, wasn't hurt.
This is an ongoing investigation and the DPS says no further information is available at this time.
