Gas meter damaged as crews fight Kansas City house fire

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A gas meter was damaged and created a leak as firefighters battled a house fire near 59th and Brooklyn Ave., according to the Kansas City Fire Department.

KCFD said crews were called to the scene around 6:10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.

Firefighters noted that they battled the blaze from inside as they searched the building for occupants. The search came back all clear.

During the fire, crews indicated that they discovered the gas meter had been damaged. They quickly secured it to reduce the leak.

After the fire was extinguished, Spire Gas crews fully secured the meter, KCFD said, with no further issues.

Kansas City’s Dangerous Buildings and City Planning departments were called to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by KCFD.
