Tracy Spiridakos on 'Anna Pigeon' and 'Chicago P.D' Hailey Upton’s shared 'stubbornness'
Tracy Spiridakos is leaving Chicago behind for the wilds of Glacier National Park in her new series “Anna Pigeon.”
Based on the Nevada Barr novels of the same name, Spiridakos plays the titular law enforcement ranger, solving mysteries and protecting nature, with a headstrong attitude similar to her “Chicago P.D.” character, Hailey Upton.
“I mean, I think their stubbornness is their strongest similarity because I feel like they're really different in a lot of ways,” Spiridakos told PauseRewind’s Elizabeth Stanton at the red carpet premiere for “Anna Pigeon” Thursday night.
She continued, “But I think the fact that they're both too stubborn and they're both not great at taking no for an answer from their bosses, and they kind of go their own way, that's the two similarities for me that stand out.”
Not to mention that traversing the woods to catch criminals and rescue stranded campers is a far cry from the streets of Chicago, but a welcome one.
“Every day we would get to work, and it was just, you're in nature, so you're just it's like a breath of fresh air every single day,” the actress said. “We're working with animals. I was climbing trees and horseback riding. It was just a very, very, very different experience. Both beautiful in their own way, but we had a really wonderful time shooting this.”
Spiridakos even picked up a few special skills while filming.
“I can't tell you without telling you too much. But I did learn how to filter water, but I can't tell you why, how, or any of that,” she teased.
Spiridakos is joined by a stellar cast including Paulina Alexis, Ronnie Rowe Jr., Kim Coates, Tricia Helfer, Cooper Levy, Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz, Ryan Northcott, Crystle Lightning, Nikki Rae Hallow, and, Melanie Scrofano.
There’s also a special character that’s always with Spiridakos: Anna’s signature messy braid.
“We really wanted it to come and hang around the side, just so it's almost like its own,” she said. “It's such a strong characteristic, we also needed it to not be falling out all the time because she was doing stunts and jumping around. So it was aery carefully orchestrated by our wonderful hair team.”
“Anna Pigeon” premieres tonight on USA Network.
