Wyden, Manning And Nathanson To Hear From Oregonians At Eugene Health Care Hearing
EUGENE, Ore. — U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, state Sen. James Manning and state Rep. Nancy Nathanson will hear from Oregonians about health care during a field hearing Tuesday at the University of Oregon’s Ford Alumni Center.
The noon event, titled “Reimagine Health Care,” is scheduled for Aug. 11 at the Ford Alumni Center, 1720 E. 13th Ave. in Eugene.
Organizers say the hearing will give Oregonians an opportunity to share personal experiences and ideas about the state and federal health care systems. Residents are also being encouraged to submit written testimony about their health care experiences to Wyden’s office.
The event comes as Democrats and health care advocates in Oregon criticize recent federal health care legislation, arguing that changes under H.R. 1 could result in millions of Americans losing health insurance and facing higher health care costs.
Organizers say nearly 250,000 Oregonians could be at risk of losing health insurance beginning in January 2027.
Manning has also called for the recommendations of Oregon’s Universal Health Plan Governance Board, which is examining a path toward universal health care in the state.
The Oregon Legislature and voters have taken steps toward establishing health care as a fundamental right in the state. Supporters say the upcoming hearing is part of a broader effort to gather public input on how Oregon can improve access to care.
Residents who want to participate can submit health care stories and written testimony through Wyden’s “Reimagining Health Care for America” field hearing. Oregonians can also share their experiences with the Universal Health Plan Governance Board.
