Art lovers can celebrate MuralFest this weekend along Route 66, with events spanning from Sayre to Miami, Oklahoma, as part of the highway's centennial celebration.
Kerry Barrick, state director of Route 66, said the historic road is seeing increased activity this summer.
"We're getting record numbers reported to us at restaurants, at hotels, at museums. We're getting record numbers reported to us daily on the influx," Barrick said.
The state partnered with the Independent Shopkeeper's Association to organize the event, which promises a busy weekend of art and activities.
"It's going to be a great weekend," Barrick said.
Barrick explained that MuralFest will feature art displays across multiple locations.
"We will have MuralFest going on from Sayre, Oklahoma, all the way up to Miami. So, there's a lot of places that you can go," she said.

She added that the festival offers a variety of art for visitors to enjoy.
"All kinds of different art to see. So, expect a little something, your twist to the mural," Barrick said.
In the Oklahoma City metro area, key stops include Edmond, where the newest mural will be unveiled during the Heard on Hurd Fest. The 39th Street District in downtown Oklahoma City will reveal its mural at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, while Yukon will host its Route 66 Fest alongside the unveiling of a creative crosswalk mural.

"So, there are lots of places to go. Grab it. Bring it out. She's a beautiful art," Barrick said.
Barrick also emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses along Route 66, which help keep the historic highway alive.
