Unlicensed daycare operator convicted of abusing infant in Crystal Lake
CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (WIFR) - A daycare operator is convicted after a video taken by a child showed the woman assaulting an 11-month-old infant.
Ann L. Migliorato, 63, of Crystal Lake, was found guilty on three counts of aggravated battery to a child and unlawful operation of a child care facility.
In April 2024, Migliorato was running a daycare out of her home. A 10-year-old attending the daycare discreetly recorded a video of the woman handling an 11-month-old, out of concern for the infant.
The child later showed the video to her mother, who contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and an investigation was opened.
In the video showed at trial, Migliorato was seen forcefully changing the infant’s diaper by using her body weight to restrain him.
The 11-month-old was heard crying before making a grunting noise that prosecutors say is consistent with pressure being applied to his neck or chest. The infant struggled throughout the video, with his arm going limp.
Migliorato was heard making several remarks, at one point saying, “every day I’m sick of this with you.”
Medical testimony was given at trial showing that the infant suffered a fractured rib during the time of the video. Physicians also found two additional healing rib fractures indicating prior abuse.
A McHenry County jury convicted Migliorato July 29 after about one hour of deliberation following a three-day trial.
Migliorato is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 8.
