The City of Porterville is celebrating a special recognition from the California Legislature honoring the City’s 100th anniversary as a charter city and its efforts to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.
A Joint Legislative Resolution was presented to the City recognizing this important milestone and the community’s efforts throughout 2026 to celebrate Porterville’s history and its connection to the history of the United States.
The resolution was signed by State Senator Shannon Grove, 12th Senatorial District; Senator Melissa Hurtado, 16th Senatorial District; Assemblymember Stan Ellis, 32nd Assembly District; and Assemblymember Alexandra M. Macedo, 33rd Assembly District.
“Receiving this recognition from the California Legislature is a wonderful honor for our community,” said Mayor Greg Meister. “Our 100th anniversary as a charter city is an opportunity to celebrate the history of Porterville and the people who have helped make our community what it is today. It has also been special to celebrate alongside the 250th anniversary of our nation.”
Throughout the year, the City has worked with local organizations and community members to commemorate both milestones through events, programs and special projects. From celebrating local history to highlighting important moments in our nation’s past, the City’s 2026 celebrations have provided opportunities for residents to learn, participate and celebrate together.
The City’s centennial celebration has provided information on history through projects and events throughout the community, including the new Battleship Playground at Veterans Park and the upcoming Washington Monument, which will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Park.
