FARGO — Fargo and Moorhead veterans are partnering with Great Plains Food Bank to give back to the community.

The sixth annual United Patriotic Bodies Food Drive is taking place from Aug. 1 to Aug. 14.

Local AMVETS and VFW clubs join together to collect food and funds for the Great Plains Food Bank.

They host both in-person and online events. Over the past five years, they've donated $30,000 and 3,000 pounds of food.

"There are approximately 11% of North Dakota households that experience food insecurity, and one in eight children live in food-insecure homes. And that's really significant when you think about your kids not having food to eat," said Virginia Kraushaar, a coordinator with the American Legion.

Starting Aug. 1, the group will be collecting donations outside of the Fargo VFW, across from Broadway Square, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
