Gov. Phil Scott weighs in on high-profile Chittenden County State’s Attorney’s race

While he can’t cast a ballot in Chittenden Country, Republican Vermont Gov. Phil Scott said if he were to pick, he’d support Bram Kranichfeld for State’s Attorney in Tuesday's primary.

Scott sounded off on the high-profile race on Thursday during his weekly press event.

Kranichfeld is a Democrat running against incumbent Sarah George. The Aug. 11 primary next Tuesday will likely decide who wins the office, as there are no Republican challengers.

George was appointed by Scott in in 2017 and has held the office ever since. Kranichfeld was also appointed in 2024 by Scott as Franklin County State’s Attorney.

"He went into Franklin County when I asked him to step up and turn the office around,” Scott said. “He did that in spades.”

Meanwhile, George has received endorsements from former Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman, state lawmakers, and at least 4 Burlington city councilors.
