A man who authorities said carjacked a woman while escaping from Palmetto Hospital in Hialeah was taken into custody after a police chase that ended in a crash Thursday, officials said.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed authorities pursuing a black Nissan Sentra on roadways throughout northwest Miami-Dade Thursday afternoon.

Officers, Miami-Dade Sheriff's deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers pursued the car as multiple attempts to stop it with PIT maneuvers caused damage.
"Somebody could’ve really been hurt, he was going on the opposite side of traffic too, head on," witness Nicole Rodriguez said.
The Sentra kept going until an FHP trooper was able to send it spinning and crashing, and the suspect was taken into custody at Northwest 17th Avenue and 79th Street.
"It’s crazy because I seen a lot and they were like, they had been pursuing him, they had hit his car too and he kept going," witness Ashley Bueso said.

Officials haven't released the suspect's name but confirmed the driver was the man who had escaped from the hospital hours earlier.
He had been brought to the hospital on West 68th Street by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office under a Baker Act order but fled shortly after arriving, Hialeah Police officials said.
While in the parking lot, the suspect approached a woman who was getting out of her vehicle and forced himself inside, police said.
As he fled in the vehicle, he struck another vehicle, police said.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed paramedics checking out the woman at the scene as authorities had a section of the parking lot closed off.
No injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
