16-year-old killed in accidental shooting in Northwest Arkansas
BOONE COUNTY, Ark. (KATV) — According to Boone County Sheriff Roy Martin, on August 11, a juvenile was found dead after a reported shooting.
Officers responded to a residence on Hickenbottom Road in Boone County at around 4:12 p.m., where they found a 16-year-old deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed a group of young men were together, and likely using controlled substances while handling a firearm.
One of the juveniles was handling the firearm when it discharged and struck another juvenile in the room.
Based on the circumstances of the incident, it is believed the subjects were under the influence and carelessly handling a firearm, which resulted in the death of another person. One juvenile was charged with negligent homicide, and they were transported to a juvenile detention center to await court proceedings.
