A New Jersey prison guard is facing federal charges after authorities say she crossed a clear line with an inmate under her watch.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey shared on Tuesday, July 29, that Jordan Pensak , 27, a married corrections officer at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, was charged with one count of sexual abuse. According to the release, Pensak admitted to the relationship in text messages sent to several people, including members of the inmate’s family.
New York Post reported on Tuesday, August 4, that officials uncovered more than 100 explicit messages, photos, and videos between her and an inmate. As per the timeline chalked out by the investigators, the relationship began in 2024 and included multiple sexual encounters inside a prison office, with the inmate reportedly paying other prisoners to serve as lookouts.
According to the outlet, Pensak was reportedly fully aware that she was under scrutiny, at one point telling the inmate she believed a fellow prisoner had informed on them, though she insisted, “they can’t prove nothing.”
The case took a more complicated turn when Pensak believed she might be pregnant, texting a former inmate at the facility to share the news, according to the complaint. Pensak later told a friend she would not continue a pregnancy, citing concerns it would worsen the investigation against her.
She also reportedly reached out to one of the inmate’s family members to discuss the pregnancy scare, as per the Post . When a friend asked whether her relationship with the inmate involved sex or contraband, Pensak reportedly confirmed it was both. She also acknowledged to a friend that she understood she could face criminal charges over the relationship.
A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed to the outlet that Pensak has been placed on administrative leave while the case proceeds.
She was released on bail after her July 28 court appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth A. Pascal in Camden. She now faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey.
