Hope West holds 13th annual Spoons Under the Moon fundraiser

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Hope West, a western Colorado nonprofit, held its 13th annual Spoons Under the Moon fundraiser Saturday, with all proceeds supporting the organization’s children’s grief programs.

Hope West provides services across western Colorado, including dementia care, elderly care, palliative care, hospice care, and grief support for children and adults.

About the event

The event brought together community members in support of Hope West and its children’s grief programs specifically. All funds raised go directly to providing grief support for children through camps and art therapy services.

Emilie Stickley, chair of the Next Gen, said children’s grief needs are often overlooked.

“A lot of the times kids get lost in the grief process and adults are often focused on maintaining the day-to-day normalcy for kids and their grief kind of gets second thought sometimes,” Stickley said. “And so, I think having opportunities for kids to experience their own grief at an appropriate level for their development and learning coping skills that are good for them helps the family unit as a whole.”

Hope West served 379 children last year and said it is seeing even more this year.
