The MacMichaels first brought the Rolling Fatties food truck to their community in 2013, and over the years it developed into a cozy full bar and restaurant. Inspired by farmers and food producers around Maine, they built their menu around Maine-inspired, scratch-made food in the form of a Fatty, a locally sourced burrito, Maine beer and beverages, and their house-made tortillas. Over the years, the MacMichaels built long-standing relationships with local purveyors, and that commitment to locally sourced, high-quality ingredients has become part of what regulars expect and what keeps people coming back.
Kingfield itself is part of the story. It’s a charming, sustainably growing community, the kind of place where you can ski at the mountain or swim in the river in the morning, and serve your friends and neighbors in the afternoon.
“We’re ready for different and new business conversations,” Polly MacMichael said. “We set our sights on 10 years with Rolling Fatties and we’re at 13. We’re staying busy with Kingfield/USA, our property management business that renovates historic, mixed-use spaces, and we’ve turned our handmade tortillas into a new business, Zig Zag Tortillas. We’re excited to shift our focus.”
The offering is fully turnkey: an established brand with a registered trademark (so far, the only one in the USA) staff, systems and recipes, a food truck, an equipped kitchen, and the buildings, in the heart of downtown Kingfield, the gateway to Sugarloaf and Maine’s High Peaks. The current restaurant location includes an owner’s living space upstairs, alongside an elegant, versatile timber-frame outbuilding ready for any design or purpose. The MacMichaels aren’t leaving Kingfield. They plan to stay in town and turn their attention to those new business ventures — Kingfield/USA and Zig Zag Tortillas — which will add to the entrepreneurial momentum building in Kingfield and ease expansion opportunities for the future owner of Rolling Fatties.
“We’re staying here in Kingfield, building something new, and we can’t wait to be regulars at Rolling Fatties under its next owner,” Polly MacMichael said.
