A late Saturday night fire caused severe damage to a Parkside Drive home, according to the Park Ridge Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched to a call of a hose fire in the 2100 block of Parkside Drive around 11:30 p.m., according to a news release. When the first fire department unit arrived at 11:34 p.m., firefighters could see light smoke coming from the house.
When fire crews made entry to the home, they found a working basement fire and began their fire attack, the release said. A commander on the scene upgraded the response to a confirmed fire, bringing additional fire companies from neighboring communities.
The home’s residents safely evacuated before firefighters arrived but reported that two dogs were still inside the house. Fire personnel searched the home and rescued both dogs and brought them out to safety, the release said.
Firefighters then fought the fire defensively until it was doused. A crew was deployed to the basement to put out any remaining fire.
There were no injuries to fire personnel or civilians, officials said. The fire is classified as accidental, and the exact cause remains undetermined. Damage to the home and loss of contents is estimated at $200,000.
According to the release, PRFD was assisted on scene by fire companies from the Des Plaines, Glenview, Morton Grove, Niles, North Maine, and Norwood Park Fire Departments. The MABAS Division 3 Fire Investigation Team responded with additional personnel and equipment. Additionally, the Park Ridge fire stations were staffed by mutual aid crews from the Elk Grove Village, Franklin Park, Lincolnwood, and Schiller Park Fire Departments to handle any other calls for service while PRFD units were committed at the fire.
