A suspect has been arrested following a shooting on Monday night that left a 30-year-old man in critical condition and prompted an hours-long shelter-in-place in Highland Park.
The city of Highland Park said Friday a suspect was arrested in Fort Wayne, Indiana, after police responded to a call. City officials said the suspect will remain in custody on local charges and will be extradited to Illinois once charges have been filed.

The suspect's name hasn't been released as of Friday afternoon.
The shooting unfolded on Monday evening in the 300 block of Walker Avenue in Highland Park, police said, on the border of neighboring communities Highwood and Fort Sheridan.
At the time, the city of Highland Park described the incident as a "rapidly evolving situation" and placed residents in the immediate area under a shelter-in-place.
According to police, a 30-year-old man was shot during the incident and was transferred to a nearby hospital in critical condition. An update from the city released on Tuesday morning said his was condition was improving.

The update said a preliminary investigation revealed the shooting occurred between people who know each other. Investigators also said they identified two persons of interest in the shooting, who were seen talking with the victim before the incident occurred.
Police on Friday didn't say if a second individual was still being sought.
The investigation drew a large emergency response from other nearby law enforcement agencies and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, with police using drones and canines.
