MEMPHIS, Tenn. - It's back to school for two of the region's biggest school districts Monday: DeSoto County and Memphis-Shelby County Schools.
Four MSCS schools closed in May.
Monday, students from one of those schools, Chickasaw Middle, started class at what is now Westwood Middle High School.
The district said the move helps make better use of space while expanding access to academic programs, extracurricular activities, and student resources.
Westwood isn't the only campus seeing changes this year.
Students from Georgian Hills Elementary have moved to Whitney Achievement Elementary, Frayser Corning Elementary students are now attending Corning Achievement Elementary, Ida B. Wells Academy students have transitioned to Hamilton K-8, and Lucy Elementary students are now part of Millington Municipal Schools.
District leaders said the consolidations are part of an effort to address declining enrollment and underused buildings.
