Fergus County Commissioners approved a one-lot commercial subdivision at their business meeting Friday.
The subdivision carves out 8 acres of land already zoned for commercial use at the corner of Cottonwood Creek Road and Highway 87 west of Lewistown. The new lot is across Cottonwood Creek Road from Torgerson’s Equipment.
County Planner Pam Vosen told the commissioners the City/County Planning Commission had reviewed the proposed subdivision and recommended approval.
“This corner is already zoned commercial,” Vosen said, adding that the only conflicts with the development might be with the existing use of that property as a hay field.
“There is an existing approach off of Highway 87 and two new approaches off Cottonwood Creek Road will be added,” Vosen said. “The land is flat and not in a flood hazard area, so there are no limiting factors. There are no protected or endangered species, and no historic features. It is within the Airport Affected Area, so any buildings will need to be in compliance with the rules governing that area.”
The commissioners unanimously approved the subdivision.
In other business:• Commissioners approved the annexation of a property into the Moore Rural Fire District, noting the Fire District had agreed with the annexation.
• Tom McKenna and Joe Eckhardt were appointed to the Council on Aging Board. It is Eckhardt’s second term.
• Ed Evans was appointed to a second term on the County Weed Board.
• Commissioner Ross Butcher announced record turnout Wednesday night at the PRCA Central Montana Fair Rodeo, and noted that Thursday night was sold out.
