A breakup in Florida took a disturbing turn after a man allegedly set out for devastating revenge against the woman who ended their relationship.
People reported on Tuesday, August 4, that Justin Fountain , 31, faces charges including cyberstalking, illegal use of a tracking device and accessing a computer without authority, according to court records.
The sheriff’s office opened an investigation after the victim, who had recently moved from Virginia to Florida, filed a stalking complaint against Fountain.
According to the arrest report obtained by the outlet, Fountain met the woman on Facebook Dating and dated her for only a few weeks before she chose to end the relationship.
She asked him to stop contacting her and return a spare hotel key, saying he had grown controlling and verbally aggressive. One of the volatile text messages obtained by Law&Crime reads: “I’m going to destroy you.”
Fountain allegedly refused to accept it was over. He reportedly showed up uninvited at her workplace, appeared outside a restaurant where she was eating with a friend and accessed her social media accounts using passwords she believes he obtained while she slept.
When she returned to her hotel room, she discovered a teddy bear containing her late son’s ashes was missing.
As per WESH, deputies say Fountain sent dozens of threatening messages during the ordeal, including one referencing the missing keepsake: “Five seconds and I’m gonna set this teddy bear on fire.”
“I can’t think of a more despicable person that would do that,” Staly told local NBC affiliate WESH .
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said the allegations left him at a loss for words.
In total, investigators say Fountain called the woman roughly 60 times and sent more than 50 texts. Fountain was tracked down after sending messages containing his GPS location, deputies said.
He remains at the Flagler County Jail on a $61,000 bond, with his next court date set for September 1, as per People .
