Kansas City police investigate after woman shot, killed in east side yard

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A late-night shooting on Kansas City’s east side has left a woman dead, and police are searching for answers and offering a reward for information.

Kansas City police officers responded to the 2500 block of Jackson Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, August 9, following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman lying in a grassy area outside a home, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived and rushed the victim to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, and investigators say they do not yet have any preliminary details on what led up to the gunfire. No suspects are currently in custody.

Homicide detectives and crime scene technicians spent the night gathering evidence and looking for witnesses.
