Local speedway near Pueblo renovating to keep racing alive in Southern Colorado

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - A different speedway is working to keep racing alive in Southern Colorado.

After the announcement that the Pikes Peak International Raceway was hosting its final year, the High Bank Speedway near I-25, just north of Pueblo, is renovating extensively to keep racing in Southern Colorado.

11 News spoke with the president of the raceway, Steve Lacy, who says the speedway is resurfacing everything from the racetrack to the parking lots, as well as fixing plumbing.

“I want to help the community out, keep racing alive in Southern Colorado, bring in some national events, and show the fans a good racing facility,” Lacy told 11 News.

Lacy said the speedway has been in Southern Colorado since 1962.

After redesigns and construction are finished, Lacy said the speedway will host a grand opening in May 2027, with different events going on during that opening day.
