Western North Carolina man pleads guilty to two counts of statutory rape of a child
A Western North Carolina man is headed to prison after he pleaded guilty to committing child sex crimes.
On Monday, Aug. 3, the Swain County Sheriff's Office said that Travis Ray Nations pleaded guilty to two counts of statutory rape of a child under 15 in connection with two separate offenses. The offenses took place on Feb. 1, 2017, and on Aug. 1, 2020.
Nations was arrested on May 6, 2022.
We are told that on July 27, 2026, Nations was sentenced to serve between 18 years and 26 years and eight months in prison. He received credit for 1,541 days (a little over 4 years) already served in confinement.
Nations will be required to register as a sex offender for 30 years following his release.

Two survivors addressed the court through victim impact statements during the sentencing proceedings. One provided a statement in person, while the other submitted a handwritten statement.
