A Peruvian man who was deported twice following criminal convictions in Connecticut and Massachusetts has been sentenced to over a year in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States.
Cesar Ruben Yllescas, 52, a citizen of Peru, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford to 15 months in prison for illegally reentering the U.S., according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut. He pleaded guilty to unlawful reentry of a removed alien on June 23.
Court records show that, between 1995 and 2015, Yllescas was arrested, convicted and sentenced multiple times in Connecticut Superior Court and Chicopee, Massachusetts District Court for drug offenses, threatening, assault, failure to appear in court, and illegal operation of a motor vehicle. In June 2016, he was deported to Peru, court records show.
According to court records, Yllescas reentered the U.S., was convicted in federal court of unlawful reentry and was sentenced to 10 months in prison in December 2019. In May 2020, he was again deported to Peru.
Yllescas again illegally reentered the U.S., court records show. He was arrested by the West Springfield, Massachusetts Police Department on March 20 for motor vehicle-related charges and on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court in 2015 for a violation of probation.
After he was released on bond on the state charges, he was arrested by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations on March 23 in West Springfield, Massachusetts, according to court records.
Yllescas has been detained since his arrest, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
