Court records reveal that soap opera veteran Colleen Zenk is facing two misdemeanor DUI charges in Florida following a May arrest in Naples — the latest legal trouble for the actress best known for her decades-long run on As the World Turns .
Documents from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office show the longtime soap opera actress, 72, was taken into custody on Friday, May 15, after law enforcement responded to a two-vehicle crash near Strada Place, according to an article People published on Tuesday, June 30. Zenk has since been charged with DUI causing damage to property or another person and DUI with a blood alcohol level of 0.15 or higher.
“The charges are being defended,” her rep said, per the outlet. “Ms. Zenk has not been convicted of anything. The truth will be played out in court.”
A witness told deputies they observed Zenk backing out of a handicap parking space near a Tommy Bahama store when her vehicle struck another parked car, per the report. The witness further claimed Zenk continued moving after the collision before being stopped a short distance away and appeared unsteady upon exiting her vehicle. A responding sergeant noted the odor of alcohol.
According to the article, Zenk told officers she had visited Bar Tulia before the incident, where she said she consumed “two wine cups.” She agreed to perform field sobriety exercises, during which the arresting officer documented multiple signs of impairment, including balance issues, swaying and difficulty following instructions. Zenk subsequently provided two breath samples measuring 0.206 and 0.192 BAC.
Zenk posted bond after her arrest and has entered a not guilty plea through counsel, according to the outlet. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for July 29 in Collier County. This is not her first brush with DUI-related charges — records show she faced a similar charge in Collier County in May 2017 and was previously arrested in Connecticut in 2010 after police alleged she had been driving erratically and crossed into an oncoming lane, per the report.
Zenk is best known for her portrayal of Barbara Ryan on As the World Turns , a role she originated in 1978 and held for more than three decades, earning three Daytime Emmy nominations. She returned to daytime television in late 2023 with a role on the CBS series The Young and the Restless .
