To the Editor:
Bloomington and Edina are communities people choose for a reason. We are known for outstanding public schools, safe neighborhoods, beautiful parks, strong local businesses and a commitment to our neighbors.
But maintaining that quality of life is not automatic. It takes a community and leaders who listen, bring people together and stay focused on solving problems.
One of the greatest privileges of representing this community, first in the Minnesota House and now as a Hennepin County commissioner, has been working alongside neighbors with different ideas, backgrounds and political beliefs. I have learned that progress comes from authentically showing up, listening, building trust and understanding that our community succeeds when we work together.
That is why I am supporting Karla Hult for the Minnesota Senate.
We are living through a consequential moment for our country, when democratic institutions, fundamental rights and the dignity of our neighbors are being tested. We need state leaders who can work across the aisle while standing firm for human rights, dignity and the freedoms we value. We also need a strong voice at the Capitol fighting to bring investments and opportunities home to Edina and Bloomington.
I know Karla well. Throughout her distinguished career as a journalist, she earned the trust of Minnesotans by asking questions, seeking facts and helping people understand complicated issues. She listens before she speaks and approaches problems with curiosity rather than assumptions. Those qualities matter in public service.
After experiencing Alzheimer’s disease in her own family, Karla founded So Many Goodbyes to support families navigating dementia. She saw a problem and stepped forward to help build a solution.
Today, families face interconnected challenges of rising costs, housing affordability, public schools, health care, public safety, transportation and protecting our environment. Our next senator must understand those connections and be prepared to represent the entire district.
Karla has the judgment, compassion and courage to do exactly that. She will listen, stand strong when our values are tested and work tirelessly to deliver results for Edina and Bloomington.
Please join me in supporting Karla Hult for the Minnesota Senate on primary day, Tuesday, Aug. 11.
