Chinese manufacturer Sunsong listed as buyer in $11M Dayton building sale

Aug. 3—A Chinese-owned company that has received attention from federal investigators is listed as the buyer of a large Dayton industrial warehouse property in a recent $11 million real estate sale.

Montgomery County auditor's office records show that Sunsong North America purchased the property at 2333 McCall St. from Phoenix Dayton II Industrial Investors for that amount.

Chinese companies with Dayton ties face scrutiny

A January 2024 raid of Harco Manufacturing Group in Moraine followed allegations that corporate owner Sunsong North America — a car parts manufacturer — had been engaging in trade violations. Though the company has a North Carolina phone number, Sunsong lists its Moraine address, 3535 Kettering Blvd., as its corporate headquarters in the U.S.

Sunsong's tax mailing address is listed as its Moraine address in the deed connected to the Dayton sale.

In January 2024, federal agents raided the Morane property where Harco Manufacturing and Sunsong were listed as doing business.

Sunsong was one of several Chinese-owned companies with ties to the Dayton area which were connected to federal investigations of alleged violations of labor and trade laws, a recent monthslong investigation by the Dayton Daily News and WHIO-TV has revealed.

The property deed lists Sunsong as an Ohio corporation. Corporation Service Co. in Columbus registered the company as an Ohio business.

Marketing materials offering space to lease at the building touted the McCall property as having more than 357,000 square feet with 10 dock docks, 6 drive-ins, and ceiling heights exceeding 33 feet.

The auditor's office recorded the July 28 sale as having two parcels.

An employee answering the phone at Sunsong on Monday Aug. 3 declined to take a message. An email seeking comment was sent to the company.

Moraine-based Harco Manufacturing Group LLC was acquired by a Chinese automotive industry supplier in 2015. At the time, Sunsong Holdings Inc. said it planned to retain Harco's 100 employees.

The company is adjacent to Fuyao Glass America's Moraine campus.
