Escaped Atkinson County murder suspect Pablo Zuriel Miranda captured

ATKINSON COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Escaped murder suspect Pablo Zuriel Miranda has been captured in Atkinson County, bringing an end to a multi-agency manhunt that prompted statewide and federal assistance.

Authorities confirmed Miranda was taken into custody Tuesday morning. Additional details about where he was found and the circumstances surrounding his arrest have not yet been released.

Miranda escaped from the Atkinson County Jail early Sunday morning while awaiting trial on two counts of felony murder and one count of aggravated assault connected to a 2024 homicide. According to Atkinson County Sheriff David Moore, Miranda fled while loading food trays into a transport van after a jailer briefly turned away.

The escape sparked an intensive search involving local, state and federal agencies, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the FBI. On Monday, the FBI announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Miranda’s arrest and said investigators believed he may attempt to flee to Mexico.

During a Monday news conference, Sheriff Moore publicly apologized for the escape, saying, “I failed you,” and vowed to hold those responsible accountable while promising the suspect would be found.

Authorities have not yet released additional information about Miranda’s capture, including whether anyone else will face charges.
