The Farmington School District welcomed students back on Monday, Aug. 24 as the new school year began. Public schools in Missouri may open up to two weeks before the first Monday in September, according to state law. This is the latest schools can open if the first Monday in September is the 7th.
Nervousness, excitement, apprehension, and relief; reuniting with old friends and making new ones; and then there’s the actual schoolwork that faces students and staff alike.
At Farmington Roosevelt Elementary School, Superintendent Dr. Jeri Kay Hardy, beginning her first year at Farmington, and other faculty members welcomed students with high fives and smiles. Bubble machines and music made for a positive entrance into the school and the school year.
At Farmington Middle, Principal Mr. Dustin Jenkerson, beginning his 10th year as principal, welcomed the students back as they entered the building with a smile and a good word.
There were a few tears from children and parents alike, but in truth, much more bright-eyed anticipation and optimism about what lies ahead.
