2 pharmacists plead guilty in $786k fraud scheme
CORINTH, Miss. (WMC) - Two pharmacists in Corinth, Mississippi have been sentenced for stealing nearly $800,000 from the federal health care benefit programs Medicare and Medicaid.
According to U.S. Attorney Scott Leary, Ricky Wayne Quinn, 71, and John Anthony Null, 56, both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud.
Both Leary and Quinn were both pharmacists working at a local pharmacy in Corinth; Quinn was also the owner and operator of the business.
According to court documents, the defendants billed Medicare and Medicaid for the same single prescription drug products numerous times.
These products included diabetic insulin pens, asthma inhalers and psychotropic medications.
A federal judge sentenced Quinn to 30 months in prison and ordered both defendants to pay $786,972.10 in restitution to Medicare.
