HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- An off-duty deputy shot a man suspected of breaking into her neighbor's home while they were out of town, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.
According to HCSO, detectives responded to the 7200 block of Rio Blanco Road in the Mission Bend area shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Investigators said the deputy reported her neighbor was out of town, and when she checked on the house because she believed it was being burglarized, she found a man inside.
The deputy told investigators that when she confronted the suspect, he attempted to disarm her, so she shot him in the upper body, according to HCSO.
The sheriff's office said the man was flown to the hospital with critical injuries.
The deputy, who investigators said has 14 years of experience in law enforcement, had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
HCSO said an investigation is underway.
