FAIRFIELD, Iowa - A Southeast Iowa man is facing charges of Assault on a Peace Officer and Interference with Official Acts after allegedly punching an officer in the face.

Fairfield Police Department says officers responded to a harassment report in the Waterworks Park area around 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Officers say they found 33-year-old James Cook of Winfield while investigating the surrounding area.

Investigators say Cook had an active felony warrant out for his arrest; they allege that Cook struck an officer in the face while resisting arrest. The officer didn’t require medical treatment.

Cook was taken to the Jefferson County Jail, where he was held pending an initial court appearance and served his outstanding felony warrant.
