In a second major hit within a week, Arizona Congressman Eli Crane was downgraded by Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball. The parade of bad news for the Trump suck-up started when Noble Predictive Insights reported that former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez was actually leading the race for Arizona’s second district.
Crane is finding himself in a very difficult environment. His main skill is sucking up to Trump. His lord and master is now experiencing the lowest ratings of anyone since Richard Nixon. Further sucking up to Trump is unlikely to improve Crane’s position.
So far, Crane’s decline has taken him down to “lean” Republican.
As they say, the first step is the killer. Once the political world sees a candidate as vulnerable the slide generally increases rapidly.
The Republicans have some people who are pretty good at messaging. When the boss comes out of the office and says, “Make it look like we are winning the Iran War,” it takes some pretty intense tap dancing to turn things around. “Why don’t people like me?” is a tougher one. Campaign managers who can answer that get paid pretty well.
Getting Nez firmly on top in Arizona’s second District puts Democrats on the way to winning control of the U.S. House. It gives us two of the three seats we need.
It’s an amazing opportunity to work with Nez and his team. The district runs from the Utah border down to the community of Maricopa south of Phoenix. If you get an opportunity to register voters in Kayenta, dance with Natives at a Sunrise Dance or attend a rally on one of the reservations, it’s an opportunity you will always remember.
I’ll try to get more of the events posted. And there is the question of money. Jonathan needs money to help hin his congressional race. You can find him on ActBlue.
