A 21-year-old Bozeman hiker was found dead on Aug. 27 after a multi-agency search that lasted several days.
The hiker, whose name has not been released, was reported overdue to the Stillwater County Sheriff’s Dispatch on Aug. 24 at 7:40 p.m., according to a Thursday press release from Park County Sheriff Tad Dykstra. The proximity of the search spanned three counties, prompting a response from all three law enforcement agencies and search and rescue resources, as well as the Montana Army National Guard and U.S. Air Force.
“Search crews were able to locate him at approximately 11:45 this morning,” the release states. “Unfortunately, he was deceased when he was located from an apparent fall.”
An autopsy and coroner investigation will be performed in Park County.
“We extend our condolences to the young man’s family and friends,” the release states.
