West Virginia state trooper thanked after escorting expecting mother to hospital, meeting newborn

WESTON, W.Va. (WDTV) - A West Virginia state trooper from Weston is being thanked after helping escort an expecting mother to the hospital as she went into labor.

In a Facebook post, Brittany Ritchie said she was driving to the hospital Saturday night when she was pulled over and told Trooper Ryan Watson she was in labor. Ritchie said Trooper Watson then escorted her for about the last 12 miles to get her there.

“I am so grateful to him for being a kind, genuine human,” Ritchie wrote.

In a follow-up post, Ritchie said she was able to thank Trooper Watson in person and that he got to meet her baby, Zillah.

Ritchie said she felt it was important to highlight Trooper Watson’s actions.

“Police don’t get enough good press. We are incredibly grateful to him and all the nurses and doctors here at St. Joseph’s,” Ritchie said.

Ritchie said her family has suffered eight losses and had been told they would not have another baby.

“Zillah is a miracle baby, and he helped with that,” Ritchie said. She said Zillah was born at 37 weeks and six days.
