Man arrested for assault, threatening Burlington firefighter
A man was taken into custody Friday night after allegedly threatening a Burlington firefighter with a knife.
Burlington Police were called to North Avenue near Gosse Court just before 7:30 p.m. for a report of a man threatening a city firefighter.
According to police, the firefighter witnessed 29-year-old Wayne Butchino III assault a woman who was walking on North Avenue with children.
Butchino threatened to harm the firefighter with the knife after he was confronted.
Someone driving by stopped and helped the firefighter detain the suspect before police arrived.
Butchino resisted officers while being arrested. Officers located a large hunting knife at the scene.
He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic assault in the presence of a child, and resisting arrest and was ordered held without bail. Butchino will be arraigned on Monday.
