Suspect killed after firing at Dickson County deputies, sheriff says
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A suspect was killed early Friday morning after the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office said he fired at deputies during an encounter that began with a report of a stolen trailer.
Sheriff Tim Eads said the incident started around 3 a.m. after deputies received a report of a stolen trailer equipped with a GPS tracking device.
According to the sheriff, deputies located the vehicle pulling the trailer near Highway 48 North and Little Bartons Creek. The sheriff said the suspect immediately opened fire on a deputy’s cruiser.
Authorities said the suspect then drove away, leading deputies on a short pursuit. During the chase, the sheriff said the suspect sideswiped another vehicle on a dead-end road before unhooking and dropping the trailer.
The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle struck a small tree, according to the sheriff. He said the suspect got out of the vehicle and fired at deputies again.
Deputies returned fire, killing the suspect, the sheriff said.
No deputies were injured.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation, as is standard in officer-involved shootings. The north end of Dickson County near Highway 48 North and Little Bartons Creek was closed for an extended period as the investigation continued.
