Marshalltown man accused of assaulting pregnant woman

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa —

A Marshall County man is jail after authorities say he was intoxicated when he assaulted a woman who is 20 weeks pregnant.

Court documents say Nicholas Sam, 29, of Marshalltown, is being held on $25,000 cash-only bond. A criminal complaint alleges Sam grabbed a pregnant woman by the hair and dragged her down a set of patio stairs, then kicked her as she was crawling.

He's set to appear in court next Thursday.
