AFD Hosted a Push-In Ceremony For Engine 6

ABILENE, Texas — For the second time this year, the Abilene Fire Department held a push-in ceremony to welcome a new fire engine into service, this time for Station 6.

Retired Fire Chief Justin Ray said the department wanted to continue the tradition.

“Well, the fire department is rich in tradition, so that's just one of the traditions I use to do back in the olden days and this one of those traditions we just wanted to keep up with,” Ray said.

The new engine comes after the previous Engine 6 suffered a mechanical breakdown, leaving the department without that truck in service.

“Without this truck being in service we’d be significantly behind,” Ray said.

The department recently held a similar ceremony to push in Engine 9 and said more new engines are expected for the community to celebrate. Abilene is set to receive Engine 1 and Engine 4 in the near future.
