October shows bring themes of healing, Western motifs and imagined worlds to the Paseo
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — New exhibits are coming to the Paseo Arts and Creativity Center in October, featuring a range of concepts from Western geometry motifs to the space between realism and imagination.
Four new art exhibits, "Inspiring Hope," "Illuminated Sculptures Untitled," "Neon Southwest," and "Stories Untold," are debuting at the Paseo Arts and Creativity Center on Oct. 2.
The non-profit Friends of the OU Breast Institute is hosting "Inspiring Hope," which explores what people find in their lives that inspires and encourages healing.
"Illuminated Sculptures Untitled " by Atticxys Metals features sculptures made from a combination of metals, fluorescent acrylic, and light.
"Contemporary with Western and geometry motifs, this collection consists of unique builds with real home, modular design in mind," the Paseo Arts Association (PAA) said. "Atticxys Metals is known for contemporary jewelry and luxe homewares, and their work has been on display at the Downtown Oklahoma City Library and in galleries throughout the Paseo. Their jewelry is currently available at DNA Galleries in Oklahoma City.
Artist Taylor Cleveland examines the visual language of the American West and draws inspiration from Cleveland's upbringing in Altus.
Oklahoma. Cacti, cowboys and skeletal figures surface throughout as symbols and stories carried since childhood, transformed into something loose, electric and deeply personal," the PAA said. "Vivid fields of coral, turquoise and sun-drenched marigold hold a restless energy, at once nostalgic and unsettled, tender and defiant. The result trades postcard nostalgia for a Southwest remembered rather than reproduced: emotionally charged, imperfect, familiar and strange, alive in full, unapologetic color, shaped as much by memory as by plce itself."
"Stories Untold" by Tracey Brauer explores realism and imagination through oil and mixed media paintings. The arts association said mystical figures are a focal point of the exhibit, with the paintings offering glimpses into imagined worlds.
