Fire crews battle Mouse Meadow fire as it nears 50,000 acres; 10% contained in Nye County

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Firefighters continue to battle a large wildfire in Nye County that's grown to almost 50,000 acres.

According to the Bureau of Land Management of Nevada, the Mouse Meadow fire grew to about 49,766 acres and is 10% contained as of Wednesday night.

Fire activity remained moderate, with crews reporting flanking, backing, creeping and terrain-driven runs.

On the west side, fire progression slowed after the blaze encountered natural barriers, while the fire continued backing on the south side.

To the northwest, the fire’s spread was checked by the 2025 Gothic burn scar, a natural fire footprint in Nye County. Fire progression also slowed to the east as fuels transitioned to open desert and previous retardant drops proved effective.

The BLM states there are no evacuations and no structures are being threatened at this time. The nearby community of Rachel, NV may be impacted by smoke but is not threatened by the fire.
